Thank you for your interest in Good Shepherd Free Lutheran Church
Good Shepherd Free Lutheran Church is in the center of Madison, SD, on the south side of downtown and north across the street from the Chamber of Commerce and the DNR. Well, our building is.
Good Shepherd Free Lutheran Church is not just a building. In the New Testament sense of the word, we are an assembly of people who believe Jesus is Lord.
As you plan a visit to join us for study and worship, please be aware that casual is perfectly acceptable. You will find shorts and sandals, but you will also not be uncomfortable if you like to be a bit more dressy. Men in ties might be uncommon, but women in dresses is not.
The main entrance to our building is on SW 2nd Street here in Madison. There is ample parking on the east side parking lot, the west side street, and across Van Eps Avenue South in the Department of Labor and Regulation parking lot. Feel free to use either entrance. You will likely see most of our people use the entrance on Van Eps Avenue as it is closer to parking.
When you enter the building either before Sunday School or Worship, you will likely encounter a good amount of chit-chat. Our people like to visit. Please be sure to pick up a worship bulletin from the table at either the main entrance or Van Eps entrance. The worship bulletin will be your guide through our time of worship. If you have a prayer request, you can write it on the paper at the podium inside the Van Eps Avenue door.
Our Sunday School classes for all ages begin at 9:45 AM. If you want to grab a cup of coffee in the fellowship hall prior to attending a class, please feel free to do so.
The worship service which begins at 10:45 AM is casual and reverent. Our music is a mix of moderns songs and well known hymns accompanied by a keyboard and guitars. The main focus of our worship is reading and hearing the Word of God. We believe that the practical application of God's Word naturally follows the hearing of the Word and knowing the God who reveals Himself through that Word. Our goals is to keep our worship time to an hour, but don't be surprised if we go just a little over. Because we've spent this time in God's presence both in worship and hearing, we really don't mind. We celebrate Holy Communion in the Lutheran understanding the first Sunday of each month.
Our time in fellowship is also important. There is always a cup of coffee and other beverage and something to eat as we gather informally in and around the fellowship hall. We love getting to know each other better; and we'd love to get to know you, too.
